FUMC is working to support the Weekend Lunch Bunch Meals 4 Kids Program at Williamstown High School. This program reaches out to kids that are not receiving much, if any, food in their homes over the weekends. Over 30 students are receiving much needed food supplements so that they can have food security.
We support this program through monetary donations and fundraisers. It costs about $3.50 per week per child or $105 per week. You can help by sponsoring a child per week, giving a small donation whenever you can, or donate enough for a weekends food. You can send any donations to First United Methodist Church at 304 West Fifth Street, Williamstown WV 26187. Just be sure and put Weekend Lunch Sacks in the memo!
In order to keep the costs as low as possible, we are purchasing in bulk from Sam's and on-line sources. The types of items we purchase are instant oatmeal packets, canned spaghetti or ravioli, cheese and peanut butter crackers, carrots and protein bars. The items vary week to week.
The packing is done by the Special Education class at Williamstown High School as a learning experience for them.
*****PLEASE NOTE: Due to the current situation with the Covid-19 restrictions in place, this program is on hold for now. Wood County Schools are doing a great job making sure that students are receiving food during the school closure.
