At First United Methodist Church, we are on a MISSION from God. We take the idea of missions and helping others very seriously. Because, we're literally on a mission from God: The Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20, "And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." We choose to GO! We meet our brothers and sisters in Christ where they need us! We are on the front lines, doing everything we can, using every resource at our disposal to reach people in need. It's not an easy thing or a once a week thing.
FUMC reaches out into our community in various ways. Giving our hearts and our hands to share Jesus' love whenever we can. We hold a monthly Lunch for area Young At Heart citizens, and a Community Breakfast. We participate in the effort to keep our community children in need fed through the Weekend Lunch Bag program. We participate in the local Food Pantry, sponsor Angel Families at Christmas, supply much needed underclothes to children through the Williamstown Elementary Children's Closet, and support the local Gabriel Project. We have a very active Compassion Ministry that continues to reach out to those folks that are unable to join us at our church worship and activities. Through the love and care of this ministry these folks know that they are not forgotten and are still a very important part of our church family.
As a church, we also support missions within our state by supporting our Celebration of Mission Event each year and filling Flood Bucket cleaning kits that have been much needed recently! Each year we take up offerings to support the international mission, Nothing But Nets for Mother's Day and for our state mission, House of the Carpenter for Father's Day.
Our hope is that sharing Jesus love whenever we can, however we can, we will touch people's lives in a life-giving, life-changing way.
