At First United Methodist Church, our doors are wide open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. What people usually notice first about us is our warmth and the welcoming atmosphere that you encounter when you enter our doors.
Together, we're striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible, where there is relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. We'd like to have the kind of contagious Christianity that can influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time.
So whether you're a spiritual seeker who is just beginning to ask questions about God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at FUMC.
First United Methodist Church was dedicated in 1912. That began a journey rich in history and steeped in traditions. Through the years, our relationship with God, our family, our friends, and our world led us to this place....Making Disciples and Making a Difference. We not only hope to share God's love with everyone, we strive to live God's word daily.
FUMC has been so blessed throughout the years. We LIVE with GRATITUDE. We continuously count our blessings. Even in the darkest times, we have so much to be thankful for. We recognize that everything we have that is good was given by God.
We LEAD with GRACE. Grace is a love that has nothing to do with us but everything to do with God. We are given the bounteous mercy and love of Christ. We use that God-given grace to inspire confidence, impart strength, and encourage those around us to use their God-given gifts and talents to spread the Word of Christ to others.
These two things are critical to the next important thing. We LEARN in RELATIONSHIP. When you are in a good relationship, You act differently and you think as part of a team not as in individual making their way through the world. We are so filled with the gratitude for God's grace that we are willing to learn to trust each other, be honest with each other, and care for each other. We encourage one another to continue to grow and change on our faith journey.
It only took a short while for God to realize Adam needed someone. We need people in our lives because we are created to need relationships. It's a part of who we are. We can't help it. God is our father. He knows what is best for us--what we need in order to thrive and grow into the people He created us to be. One of those essential needs is a LINK to our COMMUNITY. We strive to be actively engaged in the life of our community, not just filling a seat on Sunday morning. We build a strong community by learning from, worshiping, praying, serving, being in fellowship with and sharing the joys of God with others.
And last, but not least, we LOVE by SERVING. We express our love for God by serving those in His family. Galations 5:13 says, "You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do no use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature rather serve one another in love." We are not saved by serving, but we are saved for serving. The motive for serving is love. Paul says, "Serve one another in love." This is an important key to building community. We are most like Jesus when we're serving others. The FUMC family is always working to serve others with our hearts, willingly and eagerly with our of love for Jesus and with great gratitude for all he's done for us.
Don't miss out on the amazing blessings that God wants to share with you. Come and be part of His family and part of the First United Methodist Church family. We are so excited to meet you!
